Since grade school, I’ve been very competitive athletically and scholastically. I got numerous medals, trophy and wood plaques from various sports. I got my first trophy playing chess; my first medals from track and my first plaque from academics. My favorite awards are those in plaque form. They look so elegant and professional.

Now, as an adult, the only wood plaques I get are plaques of recognition. I still compete in running and triathlon events but the only things I get are certificate of participation. I can’t even finish in the top five in my age category. Nevertheless, I still enjoy participating in these events. At least I still look physically imposing. Maybe this year, I’ll crack the top 5.
