Alloy Care

A metal alloy is a combination of two or more metals. An example of a metal alloy is pewter. When cleaning objects that are made out of pewter, say, pewter tankards, it is important to know the do’s and do not’s of pewter care. The basic rule is never to wash your pewter in a dishwasher as the chemical agents in a detergent can ruin the pewter. If pewter container has come in contact with something acidic like orange juice it is best to wash it immediately. Handwashing the pewter in mild detergent with warm water will suffice.

Don’t utilize anything abrasive when cleaning pewter items like figurines as pewter is made out of soft alloy. There are different types of finish for pewter so there are different products that are used to clean them but it can also be as simple as a mild soap and water. In order for your pewter item to last it is best to look into the various cleaning products that are pewter specific.
