Kinds of Flatware

Cutlery is a term often used to refer to utensils that are used for eating. Also called flatware, these are usually the knife, fork and spoon. There are now modern versions that combine functions of the basic three. The spork is a combination spoon/fork; the spife is spoon/knife and the knork is knife/fork. There is even the sporf which is a combination of all three.

Good quality flatware is traditionally made of silver. However, because they are expensive and needs some maintenance, cheaper substitutes became popular. For everyday use, stainless steel is the material of choice. They are not that expensive, they are easy to clean and are convenient to use. A cheaper alternative are plastic cutlery which comes in handy in picnics and excursions because they are disposable.
