Add color to an otherwise lifeless-looking room. If you have chosen neutral or muted colors for a room’s walls, carpet and furniture, make sure you put in some splashes of color here and there. Add points of interest on the walls by hanging interesting paintings or installing wall sconces. Several picture frames with photos of your family members would sit well on a side table or fireplace mantle.

For a bare side table, a decorative table lamp would do. It would serve as a useful lighting device for those nights you’d want to curl up with a good book on a comfortable chair. Fresh flowers or silk flowers on lovely vases would also make visitors feel more welcome to your place.
