Flush vs. Semi-Flush Mounting

Some of the simplest and most practical lighting fixtures are flush mount lightings. They are more aptly described as close-to-ceiling installation of fixtures. If we have to be technical about it, we have to differentiate between flush mount ceiling fixtures and semi-flush mount fixtures. The difference lies in the little bit of extension beyond the ceiling that semi flush mounts offer. This allows you to install bulbs with higher wattage. It will be practical for areas such as kitchens that need to be flooded with light.

Both kinds of mounting have particular advantages. The flush mount design has a clean look; it blends seamlessly into the ceiling. The semi-flush design provides a small gap between the ceiling and the mounting. This is advantageous in that the bulb can be replaced without having to disengage the mounting. Semi flush mounting, however, is less sturdy; it can have a minor sway.
